21st Century Readiness

I define readiness as the ability to perform a task in ordinary and challenging situations. In today’s society people, technology, and time move so fast that all educators need be ready for change. Readiness is also integrated with learning. When we learn, we want to be able to perform a new task. When this task is presented to us, we have the readiness to accomplish it.

Some of my ideas for 21st century readiness include incorporating tools that we as a world community use everyday into the classroom. So many students need self to world connection or some type of background to gain knowledge of a subject. Educator shouldn’t be using the same text books and materials from year to year because our understanding of this life is not rhythmic from year to year. Teachers and administrators need to have the readiness to learn about what is working and what is not working. Education needs to change with new and innovative ideas that increase student achievement. I know this takes a big five letter word called money and it’s something that we all need. Now, I’m not saying we need to go out and have every school buy the newest computers, Ipads, and/or smartboards. What I am sayings is that educators need to have the readiness to change their classrooms, art projects, and lessons. That high tech educational equipment is nice and can be very helpful if you have them. If not there are creative ways to expose students to changing technology, so that students of today will get the education of today and not last year.

I feel that today’s educators need to have an extra bit of readiness inside of them. It is important to remember that teachers often are faced with difficult situations that require a certain degree of readiness. The readiness that a teacher displays with daily activities and year to year change is the difference between a teacher giving the best educational advice of today and a teacher who just makes it through the year.
